Wild West Racing

About the Project

There is 8 different 'characters' you can play. At the moment this is only a visual change.
Wild West Racing is, as the name implies, a 3D fun-racing game, set in the Wild West. Although racing is here meant in quite a literal sense: The player try to run to the goal as fast as they can. There is several checkpoints along the track, at which players will respawn should they die of some unfortunate circumstances, like being run over by a train. There is also some gold bars to collect, which will speed up the player for the entire race for every gold they collect. The game is playable online with up to 10 people and also has AI players so that there are always 10 players in a race. The game has 2 maps to race on.

Map 1

The first map acts more like an introduction to the game than being a real level. It is set in a small abandoned desert town in the middle of nowhere. It has no hazards and next to no obstacles to overcome. This map still needs work though, as a lot of the buildings in the small town cannot be walked on correctly.

Map 2

The second map is set in a deep canyon, with a small outpost and a lot of trains. In order to reach the goal, the players have to cross a lot of active traintracks, and be very careful not to be run over.  After passing the outpost, crossing the tracks and climbing up the canyonwall, they will be met with the most difficult section: a row of trainbridges, some still in use, which they have to cross in order to finally reach the goal.

The final and most difficult section of the level. The goal (arch) is already in sight.

Development Status

The game is currently still in development and far from finished. I have a few other projects I am currently working on as well, so development is kind of slow. I'm also facing quite a few issues with the game, which are described in bigger detail further down below.  There is quite a few things I still want to do though. There are some main revisions I have to work on, those being:
  • Rework the games assets, so that all collisions work flawlessly
  • Improve the feel of the movement and the jumping to be more beginner friendly
Additionally the game needs quite a few more features to be fun and have greater replayability. So a list of features I definitely still want to work on is the following:
Add ...
  • More maps.
  • Items, which can be used to give yourself an advantage or hinder the other players.
  • A Reward System allowing the players some level of customization and sense of achievement for winning races.
